Job Description:
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the direct execution of clinical treatment services for patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned.
oAssessing the counseling needs of patients.
oAssessing patients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool and diagnosing patients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5.
oDetermining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
oObtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.
oUnless clinically contraindicated, collaborating with the patient to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is patient-centered and recovery- oriented (a written schedule to update each patient's treatment plan will be developed, monitored, and provided by the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services to ensure patient needs are met).
oProviding the substance abuse counseling services specified in the patient's treatment plan.
oReviewing patients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer.
oReviewing and, where necessary, revising the patient's treatment plan to address ongoing problems.
oDeveloping a patient discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate level of care.
oContact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP, etc.
).
oParticipating as ta member of the multidisciplinary team for assigned patients.
oProviding active case consultation.
oDocumenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the patient's record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.

Education and/or
Experience:
oThe Substance Abuse Counselor must meet state-defined minimum licensure, education, and experience requirements.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, mean, mode and median ability to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

30PM M-F; 6am-8am rotating SaturdaysThe most qualified candidates will possess the following:
Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
Certified/licensed in addiction counseling in the state of SC is preferred.
Experience treating opiate-addicted patients is preferred.
Candidate must be willing to start early in the morning, as work hours start at 4:
45 AM.
No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program.
If recovering, three years of continuous verifiable abstinence is required.
